The Water Treadmill
The treadmill will only be used for patients that are being treated for rehabilitation purposes. Those owners who bring thier dogs for fun and fitness swimming who wish to use the treadmill will be charged a fee of £30.00 per session due to essential increased monitoring and increased running and maintenance costs.
We have a HydroPhysio HP200 Water treadmill.
This piece of equipment is ideal for dogs to exercise whilst supported by the water to gain excellent range of motion in the limbs. Walking at low impact on the water treadmill encourages extension and flexion of the limbs and placement of the feet. It is extremely beneficial for elderly patients or those with heart or respiratory problems that would find swimming in the pool simply too exhausting. It is also a more beneficial form of hydrotherapy for brachycephalic, and deep chested dogs.
The amount of water and the speed in the treadmill will be adjusted to suit every individual, by a wall mounted control panel or via remote control. There are foot placings within the treadmill so your hydrotherapist can accompany your dog throughout the session to help encourage, and support them with gait re-education if necessary. The doors provide the latest in technology of safety mechanisims, allowing gentle locking from inside and out of the treadmill.
Treadmill session times are kept to a minimum as the dogs use alot of power and energy through this type of hydrotherapy. By targeting certain areas of the body with the levels of the water we can control the speed and gait of the patient, re-educting thier foot placement were necessary.
Some dogs prefer this method of treatment as it seems they prefer to have their paws firmly on the ground !
All four sides of the tank are made from glass giving the dogs a good all round view of their surroundings. The treadmill has separate entry and exit ramps, so there is no stress involved with trying to turn your dog around in the tank at the end of the session.
