The treatment involves gentle exercise in warm water by either swimming in the hydrojet pool, walking on the water treadmill or spending time in the spa. Warm water dilates the blood vessels and allows the extra flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles, enabling the animal to move more freely and gain muscle mass to support the affected structures. This over time, develops the flexibility and range of movement of joints, giving our patients a better quality of life. In some cases the use of conventional medications can be reduced, increasing the weight in your wallet !!!
The water has a massaging and soothing effect on the muscles and joints, allowing the animal to exercise while weightless and pain free. Well being is lifted and general fitness and stamina is improved.
As hydrotherapy is a form of rehabilitation and physiotherapy, your dog may only receive this treatment with signed consent by your Veterinary Surgeon.
You can find our referral forms on this website, which can be printed out and given to your Vet for completion.
Our hydrotherapists must be sure that when treating an animal, a full medical check by a Veterinary Surgeon has been undertaken and that the animal in their opinion is fit to exercise in this way.
