Hydro Hounds is a canine rehabilitation centre catering for all Canine Hydrotherapy needs. The centre is run by Sarah, a fully qualified veterinary nurse, and a dedicated team of hydrotherapists, who have a passion in helping to rehabilitate animals to full health and fitness. Hydro Hounds is highly recommended by many local veterinary practices and are full members of the Canine Hydrotherapy Association.
Canine hydrotherapy is a complimentary therapy which aids our furry friends in the recovery of post operative procedures and in the management and maintenance of long term joint disease, arthritis and obesity.
The treatment involves gentle exercise in warm water by re-education of the gait and foot placement whilst walking on the water treadmill. Warm water dilates the blood vessels and allows the extra flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles, enabling the animal to move more freely and gain muscle mass to support the affected structures. This over time, develops the flexibility and range of movement of joints, giving our patients a better quality of life. In some cases the use of conventional medications can be reduced and surgery avoided.
What is hydrotherapy ?
The water has a massaging and soothing effect on the muscles and joints, allowing the animal to exercise while bearing less weight and reducing pain. Well being is lifted and general fitness and stamina is improved. Benefits include but are not limited to the following:
